San Cristóbal on its way to becoming the world’s first carbon-neutral island

Editor

Explore how San Cristóbal, through the EVO2 project and collaboration with Galapagos EcoBalance, aims to achieve carbon neutrality, setting a precedent in global sustainability.

We are part of the historic cooperation agreement signed between the Mayor’s Office of San Cristobal and the Galapagos EcoBalance company. This agreement, the EVO2 project, fills us with joy. We have the support of significant entities such as the Quito Chamber of Commerce and the Rescuing Galapagos Foundation. This is a giant step towards the goal of making San Cristóbal the first carbon neutral island on the planet. How exciting!

The EVO2 Project: A Path Towards Carbon Neutrality

The Mayor of the Autonomous Decentralized Municipal Government of San Cristobal Canton, Eng. Rolando Caiza, mentioned with great enthusiasm that “EVO2 is a key tool to measure, reduce and offset our carbon footprint following international standards. Its implementation implies a close collaboration with the local and international community, projecting plans until 2050.” This partnership with Galapagos EcoBalance is a dream come true, which aspires to erect a global model of harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature.

Oxify: The Platform Behind The EVO2 Project

EVO2 relies on our Oxify blockchain-based platform, which measures and quantifies carbon emissions. This allows us to design mitigation and compensation strategies with full transparency. It also opens doors to financing and investment in education, employment, renewable energy, reforestation, and other climate mitigation mechanisms.

Conservation And Sustainable Development: The Legacy Of San Cristobal

San Cristóbal has always had the challenge of balancing socioeconomic development with environmental protection. This balance includes not only the conservation of protected areas such as the National Park and the Marine Reserve, but also the improvement of the quality of life of its inhabitants. Eng. Carlos Ortega, of the Rescuing Galapagos Foundation, reminds us that “EVO2 is a driver of awareness and sustainable income development, offering a green model based on science, technology and community empowerment.”
